The true superstar of Hindi Cinema, Rajesh Khanna ruled the Hindi film industry for almost ten years. Recognized as the first superstar of the Bollywood industry, he received love from all age groups of fans. His unique style of acting and awesome dialogue delivery gradually increased his fan following from every nook and corner of the world.
Rajesh Khanna was not merely an actor but he has also received recognition as a producer, co-producer, and playback singer.
Rajesh Khanna was born on 29 December 1942 in Amritsar in Punjab State, India. He completed his high school from St. Sebastian’s Goan High School and two years of his Bachelor of Arts in NowrosjeeWadia College in Pune from 1959 to 1961 and then later studies in K. C. College, Mumbai. He was called Kaka by his near and dear ones.
Rajesh Khanna remained active from 1966–1975 and served the Bollywood industry. He proved his versatility by realistically enacting the roles in some of the films like Namak Haram, Anand, and Bawarchi. He worked with many popular heroines like Mumtaz, Sharmila Tagore, Shabana Azmi, Poonam Dhillon, Tina Munim, Hema Malini, and Asha Parekh, etc. However, Mumtaz was considered to be his best on-screen co-star.
For “Aradhana”, he got national fame and referred to as the first superstar of India. Then after he never looked back and gave 15 hits in a row. Subsequently, his stardom rose to greater heights and he became the heartthrob of the young generation of the 1970s who tried to imitate his style and mannerism.
He will always be remembered for his songs. Most of his unforgettable songs were sung by Kishore Kumar and this is the reason why Kishore Kumar was considered as the official voice for him. The Kishore Kumar-Rajesh Khanna duo created such a miracle that can be felt even now when we listen to their songs and this miracle will last forever through his songs.
Kaka, as he was fondly called by his relatives and friends, will always be remembered for his multifarious attributes— gentle smile, unique dialogue delivery, dancing and romancing in style, waving of his hand, and the joyful tilt of his head.
Rajesh Khanna died on 18 July 2012, at his bungalow, Aashirwad, in Mumbai. His funeral took place on 19 July at 11:00. Many of his fans from all across the world attended his funeral. His ashes were immersed in the Ganges by his wife Dimple Kapadiya and daughter Rinke Khanna on 25 July 2012.
